Making Time For What Matters Most

THE SAUSAGE GRAVY DILEMA

Yesterday, I woke up at 5:30 am, poured myself a cup of coffee and opened my computer to write this week's Mindful Monday.

I start every week this way...

I sip my coffee and think about the past week, combing for insights or little bits I learned that might help me (and you) in the week ahead.

Yesterday however, all I could think about was that it was Lilah's 19th birthday. And because school is online for her right now, she is actually home for it.

So instead of focusing on writing, my head was juggling an already overtaxed schedule and wondering if I'd manage to put up balloons and make the all important sausage gravy and biscuits before she woke up.

All the while, strategizing how we might get to presents (also a birthday breakfast tradition here) before my first meeting.

That's when it hit me.

I LIVE for this stuff.

We have these traditions because I created them.  And I created them because they bring me such joy.

Why on earth would I try to squeeze that in?
I rescheduled my meeting and closed my computer.

I filled the hallway outside of Lilah's room with balloons, set up the "birthday kitchen" and made a batch of sausage gravy and biscuits.

And because of it, you're reading Mindful Monday on Tuesday this week.

This Week:  The joy that's right in front of you...

Give yourself permission to let go of the reigns a bit and make room for something that brings you joy.

That's it.

Make some room for joy.

I'd love to hear about what you do with it.  Hit reply on this email to share with me.

Oh wait!

I almost forgot to tell you - I BURNT THE BISCUITS and we ate them anyway! Things don't need to be perfect to bring joy.

BIG Love -

Wendy
